Brain research confirms what experienced teachers have always known: no 2 children are alike, no 2 children learn in the same identical way, an enriched environment for one student is not necessarily enriched for another. In the classroom, children should be taught to think for themselves. Differentiated instruction: all children can learn, all children can learn with time and appropriate support. Is a cyclical process of finding out about the learner and responding by differentiating. Knowing the learner: differentiation involved using assessment to gather information about students", readiness, learning preferences. Is it group work, partners: learning environment, the conditions for learning. Creating a positive atmosphere: respectful relationships among students, and between students and adults, productive, cooperative behaviour on the part of all members of the community. Time: literacy block is organized to have a balance of reading, writing, word study, sharing and accountable talk, students are aware of what is happening when and why.
