Document Summary

Poems arranged in stanzas are said to be: strophic. Poems not arranged in stanzas are said to be: stichic. If we apply a syllabic meter count, we are counting: all syllables ways as possible. Expand possible meanings: say things about the poem to yourself in as many different. Around 1800s, traditional forms begin to break down, new & unrestrained approach . Sometimes the form of the poem determines the sub-genre. These poems share many of the features of fiction, both the short story. A bob-and-wheel , bob is line 19 (2 syllable short line), and the wheel being the remaining lines of the poem which are also shorter than the main parts of the stanza. Lots of alliteration in this type of poetry. Predictable / mechanical meter because it has to follow a melody. A poem written in memory of someone who has died, a way of memorializing.
