At the beginning of his writing career, he was very successful, however he was forgotten for the last 30 years of his life. He has been incredible popualr, and a part of canonical literature since his death. Written between 1888 and 1891, but was set in 1797. Manuscript was rediscovered in. 1919 and published in 1924. This set off a revival of melville"s popularity. Has been adapted into a paly, an opera, and a movie. What billy does is illegal, whether its international or not (or whether its deadly or not)
