A grade on test would require the above plus original observations about the similarities and differences between the units (things i have not mentioned) Before christmas, spend one hour jotting down some similarities and differences i have not mentioned; these will come from your own experience writing a narrative and an essay. Argument: narratives and essays can persuade, although narratives don"t argue in a formal sense ; essays can employ narrative as illustration/example and as indirect argument. Emotion: narratives and essays must tap into people"s emotions, otherwise nobody cares. Detail: narratives and essays include specific, interesting details, or else they don"t seem authentic and true ; secondary sources occasionally, but not mandatory. Concrete not abstract: both ground-level approaches, working on a human/personal level that readers can relate to ; both connect to greater significance.
