William shakespeare: (1564 1616) an english actor, playwright and poet. Their first child susanna was born in may 1583. February 1585, twins hamnet and judith were born. On 11 august 1596 hamnet shakespeare was buried. King james i ascended to the throne after queen elizabeth i"s death (d. James i took over the patronage of the company, now to be known as the king"s men. 1608 the king"s men acquired the lease of the blackfriars theatre, an indoor playhouse with a far smaller capacity than the globe and with far higher admission prices; the king"s men acted there from the autumn of 1609. The company played in both venues but blackfriars was by far the more prestigious. Shakespeare wrote hamlet, rewriting the hamlet" play that had been playing on the london stage by 1589 and may have been written by thomas kyd.
