Taking a 20th century approach, influenced by modernist intervention (taking advantage of free verse, etc. ) and was politically active during this time. Commitment to social values and world peace informed her poetry. Levertov was an activist as a citizen of the us. Aims to address an issue caused by feminists. French feminist strategy for liberation centred on language was driven on intellectual practices- overlooked how women lived with their body. Offered very little in the way of concrete analysis of the body as a locus of practical cultural control. The body is secondary to the intellectual mission. What women are missing from the intellect- how women are in a body that exists in the world. That body is also at the mercy of the world and is determined by the world. Anorexia as a symptom of the female body.
