Description
How to Open a Can of Beans Swapnil Agrawal (Student Number: 210049237) 13 Oct. 2008. 1 Process of Opening a Can of Beans INTRODUCTION Opening a can of beans is a process which allows a person to extract beans from a can with minimal or no spill of beans from the can. Opening a can of beans involves holding the can opener in the right position, tightening the teeth of the opener with a firm grip and turning the rotary handle to cut through the lid of the can. The process includes the following steps: holding the can opener in the right position, tightening the teeth with a firm grip and turning the rotary handle to cut through the lid of the can. DISCUSSION Holding the Can Opener in the Right Position Holding the can opener in the right position is the action of orienting the opener in such a way that either a left handed person or a right handed person can open the can easily. This step ensures that the lid opens uniformly which makes it easy to extract the beans later. Customized steps for a left and right handed person makes it easier for the person to use his stronger hand. The stability of the can over the ground should be considered to ensure safety of the person handling it. Caution: Use rubber gloves while handling the can opener to shield the hands of the person opening the can from the sharp teeth of the can opener. Equipment: Rubber gloves are required to shield the hands of the person opening the can and a can opener is required to open the can. 2 1. For a left handed person: Hold the long handle of the can opener in your right hand such that the rotary handle is facing towards you. Then place the opener of the can in such a way that its teeth are holding the lid of the can in between them. Then place your left hand on Figure 1: Holding position for the rotary handle.
