Between 1938 and 1944, use of public transit went up by 87% in the us and 95% in the canada. Global emissions decline in 2009 due to the economic crisis but surged a whooping 5. 9% in 2010. Largest absolute increase since the industrial revolution. We have not done things necessary to lower our carbon emissions because those things fundamentally conflict /w deregulated capitalism: extremely threatening to an elite minority. 3 pillars of this new era: privatization of the public sphere, deregulation of the public sector, and lower corporate taxation, paid for /w cuts to public spending. How market fundamentalism has systematically sabotaged our collective response to climate change. Freeing multinational corps from all constraints also contributed to the underlying cause of global warming.
