Urbanization represented by toronto (lighter brown); houses, office buildings. Suburbanization in other parts of the greater toronto area (lighter brown) Fewer intact forests in urbanized and suburbanized areas. Areas past gta are farmland; still no forests. Area used to be much more forested long time ago. Human caused changes include urbanization, deforestation and agriculture; three are interrelated. Artificial structures: human-built structures; cities, buildings, roads, etc. Land cover: physical & biological cover over the surface of land; water, vegetation, bare soil, artificial structures. Land use: human use of earth"s land-based attributes or resources; understand the social, political, economic reasons for this use.
