Downtowns are dystopian spaces; downtown is more active space; seen with problems. Urban renewal, in many cases they are not successful. In many cases, people do whatever they need to to get by. Suburban development takes advantage of cheap land. The state in many cases intervenes to free up land. This isn"t just the product of enlightened thinkers. Some planners saw them selves as political administrators. There"s a lot of conflict that happens with planning. We start to see mobilization to accommodate low income residences. New housing, more than 800,000 units over the next 6 years. Private sectors see this as a betrayal for free market, there is a tension. Captured some of the development of state intervention. Call for stronger building codes and greater enforcement of these codes.
