Lecture notes: basic definition of feminism (review from last week) One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. There are many different types of feminism and feminists groups. Week 02 - 19/09/2017: feminisms, or, why not all feminist approaches are the same. Socialist feminism: socialliist democracy with feminsits. Anti-racism feminism: post-colonial feminism, trans-national feminism, black feminism. 1st wave: 1800s, 1900s, right to vote. 3rd wave: 90s, much more inclusive difference, there is no one feminism, there is no one view. Week 02 - 19/09/2017: the social construction of gender, traditional fe(cid:373)i(cid:374)ist u(cid:374)dersta(cid:374)di(cid:374)gs of (cid:862)se(cid:454)(cid:863) (cid:448)ersus (cid:862)ge(cid:374)der(cid:863) Gender the host of social and cultural differences described because of biology; i. e. sex. When we talk about femininities or masculinities have to do with gender. At 16 to 18 weeks, a fetus would not survive, and we assign a gender role to it.
