Document Summary

1763- the british empire conquered new france and left them in control of all of n/a. After the 7 years war, the indigenous people went to war to fight off the british army- fighting against dispossession map. The distinction between revolutionists and loyalists can be argued to have helped establish the dominion of canada later on. Key points: royal proclamation, 1763, quebec act, 1774, american invasion, 1775-76, peace of paris, 1783, loyalist, constitutional act, 1791, treaty of ghent, 1815. The conquering of quebec is the height of imperial britain"s complication with french canadian population. Unlike in acadia french canadians were a much larger population. When britain conquered new france, it had to figure out how to fit a large french population into an imperial framework in bna that did not include french speakers and catholics. Well, conflict broke out almost immediately in 1763 among the indigenous peoples. Eventually they signed peace treaty with the british in 1760-1.
