Cities were made and re made because of the context of the british empire. Why cities have a distinct significance and the spaces of social life. There is no city of any significant in a place like canada it is tied up with the colonial project. Capital cities and the centre of the imperial states. The city becomes a projection of power that other spaces do not provide and modern states with modern technologies of social control. And the ability to colonize the ability of the state. And you use to display that characters and project its power. London is a hub of commerce it isn"t just a place of power. It is key for the identity of the empire. Cities are diverse and especially in major urban centres.
