Running head: electronic health records and patient safety. Electronic health records are starting to be implemented across canadian hospitals and clinics. Doctors and physicians have benefitted from getting regular and easy access to patient record information as well as shorter wait times (brown, shaw, grimm, muttitt, & As ehrs hold multiple benefits, there is also a grave concern with them. According to the royal college of nursing (2015), patient safety in the health care system is the prevention of harmful effects to patients. Ehrs are efficient in doing their jobs using less paper resulting in healthy indivduals, (staggers, weir & phansalkar, 2008) as they are implemented in canadian care settings (saher et al. , 2010). The barriers to using ehrs are financial costs, patient privacy and medical errors (menachemi & collum, 2011), which can result in great harm to a patient. A way to address some barriers is to educate patients on.
