In this we update our examination of governmental statements about health, the structure and activities of public health agencies, and the relationship of public health to other arms of government activity in canada, u. s, the u. k, norway, and. The federal government"s a new vision of health for canadians identified four fields that determined health: human biology, lifestyle, environment, and health care. Advocating for healthy public policies is the single most important strategy for improving health. Similar themes are common in federal, provincial, and local public health documents, disease-oriented association mission statements, and royal commissions and senate committee reports on health. It is not surprising there is little public health focus on healthy public policy: many provinces had no evidence of mandated programs that were explicitly health focused that address broader determinants of health or used multiple strategies. Local public health units across canada are unlikely to have initiatives addressing poverty issues.
