Difficult to keep up with the medical literature: there are so many journals out there for just family medicine alone. A family physician will need to read these articles and they may have subscriptions or not to these articles: difficult to determine the quality of the data, time constraints, volume of data (on the internet) is exploding . Complexity: complexity of modern american medicine is exceeding the capacity of the unaided human mind (eddy 1999) Challenges faced by clinicians: evolutionary: diseases can change over time. Another problem that may arise is that many of these journals aren"t free. New tools to stay current: blogs, wikis such as wikipedia, wikidoc and ganfyd, rss (really simple syndication) feeds, podcasts and video casts, ted talks, social networking and social media.
