Document Summary

The third lecture was very interesting as we discussed the electronic health record or also known as electronic medical records. There are many advantages to having electronic health records such as effectiveness and efficiency, easy access, minimal errors in recordings. To build an electronic health record, we need to build a system of analytics and data in order for the medical data to be stored and retrieved. One new thing that i"ve learnt was that cpoe (computerized physician order entry) is an electronic health record which processes orders for medications and other tests but is not the same as electronic prescribing. Professor el morr discussed many features and tools associate with electronic health records which help strengthen the electronic health care system. To conclude, i"ve come to a conclusion that a paper-based system is not the smartest method of maintaining health records in the 21st century. Reimbursement by the federal government for electronic health records use has greatly increased adoption.
