Rights of children, looking at how rights in canada legally so have been protected and initiated. Throughout history we talked of biology of children, only recently we have been talking of rights of children. Moved by international agreements or covenants like un conventions on rights of children (protects children). Some countries (2) have not signed it: somalia and us. It"s a persuasive document with no enforcement, the us cannot enforce but recommend, persuade, and argue that rights need to be protected. Variety of approaches to dealing with children rights depending on profession and jurisdiction. Two common characteristics: kids are agent in owns right (subjectivity), are thinking humans (are agents) this is common denominator for all these studies and approaches. Secondly: their ability to contribute and participate in decision making. These are the common ideas they agree on in most jurisdictions and studies. Problems: elephants in the room with regards to children rights are the parents.
