HREQ 3010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Predatory Lending, Multinational Corporation, International Political Economy
Document Summary
Marx and modern capitalism: the theory and method of global political economy. Our modern capitalist system is premised and thrives at high levels of exploitation. We are directly benefitting from labour in third world countries and that is a drive for profit. One of the key elements to be studied and understood within global political economy (gpe) is the extent to which the world has become, and is increasingly becoming, more integrated and interdependent. Its goal is to dominate: by opening up markets you also allow for the dominance of an economic system which tends to replace traditional systems, globalization is tied very closely to the spread of capitalism. Therefore, activities on the part of governments are more likely to be coordinated and planned in a central way. This means that governments also have less capacity for independent action. Does it translate into less national control and power, compared to the past: yes.
