Later, as i walk back out of the war zone, i see laurent fabius once more. He still hasn"t made it to his meeting. This time he is climbing into a van with about dozen other delegates. In front and behind the van are police cars with their roof lights blazing. A moment later the little caravan heads off to try to get the french finance minister to his appointed destination. Just down the street, two d. c. cops are following eight or nine anarchists dressed in black and carrying red and black banners. They climb into their own van and head off toward the war zone. Today"s movement is more diverse than its predecessors, its sensibility is more clearly internationalist, and its connections with activists in other parts of the world are much more developed. It can no longer be said that today"s young activists are sixties wannabes.
