Introduction (Book 2)
Helen’s suitors — so many men chasing Helen to have her as a wife.
“Helen and her possessions”
Agamemnon has to make a choice: his role as the father and role as the political
leader of the Greek forces. Its his responsibly to protect his children and he might
have to kill them. He choose his political self.
Going to rescue Helen from Troy fills Agamemnon with self fulfilment. He has the duty
to rescue Helen and avenge his brother.
Greeks are a coalition force. They are fully into warrior mode.
Agamemnon chose to sacrifice
This is all about humans making difficult choices. To go to war, to not go to war, etc.
Book 1: Conflict between Agamemnon and Achilles.
Agamemnon is the most powerful, no reason why. He is also the richest.
Achilles challenges Agamemnon because he thinks that he is the best.
Odysseus, Party Whip
Zeus sends a dream to Agamemnon saying to attack the Trojans.
He wakes up and attacks to Trojans, but then stops and tells the troops to go home.
Odysseus goes around and makes them do what he wants.
There is a big class difference in this book.
Thersites & Odysseus
Physically very ugly.
Achilles and Odysseus hates him.
Thersites speaks up and says that the war is unnecessary.
