Document Summary

This play continues on with some of the drama and questions that we saw played out in oedipus. Oedipus story hangs in the background, this backdrop of violence, fear and doubt. Oedipus as you recall giving us the story here. He thought polybus was his father, even though laius was the real father that he killed. Accidently fated to kill his real father and have children with his mother. 4 children are the product of that relationship between jocasta (oedipus mother) and oedipus himself. We don"t hear about this in the play that much, but at the very end when oedipus was broken down and blind, casting himself into exile as he has commanded, following out his curse on himself. He took with him his daughter, antigone and ismene to come with him in the exile. And as he walked off a broken man, his leaned on his two young daughter.
