Recap major ideas from books 1 and 2. We moved from grim war epic, iliad, to a more cheerful yet still sad epic, odysseus, and the efforts of odysseus to go back home. The odyssey is what happens after war book. He is polytropos:- many turns, twisting and turning- a complicated man as emily wilson described. The things he underwent in war, iliad is a small slice of a 10 year war, it only depicted the last three weeks of the of a gruesome war. Odysseys has been trying to get home now 20 years. For odysseus we see repeatedly that he is coming to his home and to his wife. Odysseus is a buxorious? man , it means interested in his wife. Nostos- we spent a lot of time in the iliad talking about the warrior being in pride furious raging fight mode, warrior state,m raging state.
