Broad topic: return to sender by julie alvarez. Will be examining migration and community aspect of the story. These two aspects tend to go hand in hand with one another, because migration can be seen as leaving one community and joining another. Migrants, in the new community often find themselves struggling to fit in or wondering whether they belong. These two topics are also interesting because usually it is the belief that in communities people are from the same place and have all been there from the start. Seeing how baffled the mexican children and their classmates were about how to understand this situation that had thrown us all together, i thought: we need a story to understand what is happening to us! Their children were the biggest casualties of this operation -- left behind to be soothed and reassured until they could be finally reunited with their parents.
