Balancing identity: changing the way that we appear to fit the expectations of others. Comics code authority stamp: comics were often seen as bad for children because of the violence, comics industry agreed to release this authority stamp to approve comics. Comic books without these stamps would not be touched, since it did not follow the regulations. In spite of the code, a huge movement (more popular) targeted those comics that were othered , or not approved. Called the underground comix to distinguish the difference. The sandman: there had always been a sandman character in the past dc comics. 1941: a batman-like sandman that would wear a gas mask, fedora and cape would hunt down bad guys and leave them for the police to arrest the next mornig. 1988: gaiman"s character; his sandman character moves well beyond others he has a family (the endless ), and a regular appearance.
