Encourses: a historical period (pre-1600s) mostly in england o. In a feudal society, all the land is owned by the crown. Part of the land is owned by a lord, who has peasants who works the land. On this, they had a three-field system, where they had vegetables in one section, but on the second, it"s left alone. The third is called the commons, which is a separate piece of land that the king owns: it"s for the vegetables" profits went to the lord who would then sell that. The commons were guaranteed an existence: after the encourses, much of the land becomes private land, with this, life changes, gleaners were women who had no means of surviving for themselves. Scythes were banned, despite that they were much more helpful and didn"t drop any wheat. The sickle were violent and would often drop wheat. The scythes were outlawed because then gleaners would be out of work.
