Document Summary

How montesquieu describes law and morality in a democracy (how democracy becomes strong): People as a body have sovereign power; people are the monarch. People should do everything they can as citizens. People should name their ministers and they will belong to the people in return. The people should be guided by a council or the state (but people elect them themselves in order to choose who they will trust to guide them) This gives people authority of choice to who they will follow. The people have more experience in the real world then a monarch does in a palace. Monarch knows more about business side, profits, etc. Virtue is very important; however monarchs must execute laws by judging himself above the law (not personal) In a democracy, government is trued in each citizen who is a part of it. Each person should have same advantages and expectations (common to all)
