HUMA 1825 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Irenaean Theodicy, Moral Evil, Natural Disaster
Document Summary
John hick believes in the irenaean theodicy where everything is revolved around the. He believes that humankind goes through an evolutionary process where they start out as an immature creature which ultimately turn into a perfect human being. He dismisses the idea of adam and eve, who at first were perfect human beings who then experienced a downfall; instead, he believes that humans started off as blood thirsty savages. He portrayed the idea that humans were designed to go through struggles and development to attain wholly goodness through their own freedom. However, if they were made wholly good, their morals and love to their maker would have little or no value. As a result from this theory, hick argues that it is necessary to have an environment where god permits non-moral evil in order for people to reach the ultimate goal of being the children of god.
