When confucius was living, there was no such thing as concrete daoism. Daoist literature term huang lao was used until the han dynasty. During the han wudi dynasty, we see the appearance of the term daojia adoption of daoism as orthodox. Later han dynasty daojiao coincide with those confucians who were more esoteric like those who created elixirs for eternality. Successive canons never made this distinction between the daojia and daojiao. Pre-han dynasty (i. e. before 206 bce 220ce) huang-lao: in daoist literature, huang-lao continued to be used until tang dynasty. Evolved over time expanded until its last publication during the ming dynasty often contained other texts. Two categories the inner transmitted from master to student and the outer which is used for the public. Han dynasty: han wudi (145-86 bce) daojia.
