Huma 2640: the romantic movement, reading and misreading, monstere, the gothic quest. Know what type of writing you are dealing with (ie. poetry, novel etc) What should you ask yourself concerning the topic. Notion of rome as an imperial place, that shapes the way stories are told ( roma ) An idealized romance is pushed in the world in the same way that rome pushed an idealized version of itself to the world. Context of these questions is the romantic movement (early 19th century) Massive shift in european society after american revolution and french revolution. Romantic movement is a movement in reaction to 18 century ideas of enlightenment. Are reason and logic alone enough to explain human blank and human behaviour: seen in candide where pangloss" reasoning is awed and untested, romantic movement critiques reasoning that refuses to be tested. Whenever we say that we feel , we are children of the romantics.
