The reception although has been mixed, some critics really loved it, and some were against it. Its reception was similar to where the wild things are. Fitzhugh has an unflattering depiction of adults, and an unapologetic protagonist. Over the last few decades both wtwta and harriet were acclaimed and are considered classics. They have also been prone to censorship by being considered harmful for children.
