HUMA 1170 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Veganism, Perspectivism, Atheism
Document Summary
Lecture (cid:883)4: nietzsche"s genealogy of modernity: nietzsche radicalizes the 19th century turn to history, he conceives of morality and values in historical terms. Recap: he wants to use history to study things that history has never studied before and also very abstract kinds of things: love, beliefs, values, social norms. All actions we preform we judge and evaluate. Those values no single person ever invents they are inherited. The conceptual tools we have are used to preform those actions are not invented by us but they are inherited. The earth would go shooting off in a straight line in whatever speed we rotate around the sun: the metaphor is the sun is god and god keeps everything in structure and in orbit. If you really want to get rid of god everything has to be rethought. If you get rid of god the entire framework of intelligibility and life make sense crumbles.
