Document Summary
I attended st. lawrence martyr parish, which is a roman catholic church located in scarborough, ontario. The church hosts weekday masses every day from monday to friday at 8:00 am, and weekend masses every saturday at 5:00pm and sundays from 8:30 am to 5:00pm. Currently masses are offered in english, italian and latin. The question i decided to focus my research on was, why various postures such as sitting, standing, and kneeling are used during different periods of the liturgy. As an individual attending a catholic mass for the first time i was quite surprised in regards to how many changes in posture occurred in the span of one mass. At the beginning prior to any research being done i initially perceived these postures as purely routine and solely being used by the priest for the congregation to be able to distinguish the different parts of the mass.
