ILST 2655 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Fluvial Terrace, Braided River, Alluvium
Document Summary
The white ceilings in bermuda are designed to collect rain water, fresh water, that"s portable because there is no underground portable water. Fluvial processes: there are two processes; river systems remove products of weathering, mass movement and erosion. Look at a map and see the major rivers. Alluvium: is created through erosion, transportation and deposition. Alluvium will come at the bottom of a river, but you will also find a drainage basin. Where the river ends, is where you have the alluvium. They carry their load as dissolved, suspended and bed load. Velocity: how dynamic the stream is will determine its velocity. Channels: three types: braided channel, straight and meander channel. Rivers will tend to move side ways also: oxford, koba lake. Gradients: gradient streams deposits create a bar. Longitudinal stream profile show knickpoints produced by resistant strata. Alluvial terrace: strains can create alluvial terraces where minerals are deposited.
