ITEC 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Multiprocessing, Hard Disk Drive Performance Characteristics, Hard Disk Drive
Document Summary
As you know that the goal of scalar processing is to produce an average execution of one instruction per clock tick. But, if the the clock ticks at the rate of 2 ghz, to know how many instrcutions this computer can excute per second. Since one mhz (megahertz) clock ticks at 1 million meaning, {1. 0 x 106= 1 million} , and one ghz (gigahertz) clock ticks at 1 billion {1. 0 x 109= 1 billion}. From understanding this, this means that a 2ghz clock can ticks twice as fast as a 1 ghz clock can at {2. 0 x 109} which means 2 billion ticks per second. A superscalar processor is the ability to process more than one instruction per clock cycle (englander, page 245). Explain coherently why one would expect this to be the case. Each cpu in the processor called a core (englander, page 257).
