Racism is a social construction it is something we do to each other. How do we know that certain categories were not pre-determined to define race. We attach meaning to race leading to inequality. Race has real effects because they have long histories. Racism: assumptions, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that manifest in hatred or contempt for individuals who have physical characteristics is different from ourselves and the institutional policies, processes and practices that flow from those views. Institutional: policies, practices and procedures of various institution (education, justice, example: having a short-term job and asking someone to look for more people to work for you. While doing that, they only ask the people who are close to them which are people who are of the same race. Systemic: laws, rules and norms that form fabric of social system, resulting in unequal distribution of resources and rewards. Stereotypes that are created because of the assumption of races becomes repeated.
