Social construction is a phenomenon that we give meaning through interactions. Something that ends up taken as natural and unquestioned. Media representation and images are related to social constructions. Aging: you should be active while aging and fight it. What good aging is is reinforced by the media. Food: linked to or intersects with middle class ideology. That is linked to how healthy food is constructed. How anyone can be eating healthy can be done by anyone. It is constructed as easily accessible and is not influenced by society or social structures. There are even contradictions we do not question. Consider hegemony, we consent to a social constructive being oppressive like class and gender. This lets us understand gramsci"s idea of power. Multiple meanings is linked to fatness being a social construction with multiple meanings. This definition is pervasive, it"s a health and psychological problem of the individual. It is thought of something that needs fixing.
