KINE 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Kinematics, Compression Stockings, Endorphins
Document Summary
Types of muscular soreness: acute muscle soreness result of accumulation of metabolic byproducts. (h+) and tissue edema (fluid shifting from blood plasma into tissues) Lasts only a few mins/hours after exercise: delayed onset muscle soreness (doms) High tension in muscle causes structural damage. Impact of doms on athletic perception: perception of functional impairment, joint kinematics, strength and power, altered recruitment patterns, injury risk factors must rest. Treatment & management strategies: cryotherapy not proven to be effective, stretching no proof that it"s preventative but still good practice, massage not a lot of proof backing it up, compression proven effective!! Eg. compression socks, etc: exercise ironic but most effective. The more fit you are, the better your body can handle soreness.
