Normal airway resistance ( air can move in and out easily) Problem is that lung cannot inflate as much (reduced lung capactity ; volume of air; lung can"t expland as much. Caused by diseases of: pleura (including pneumothorax) Penomothorax can get better: pulmonary fibrosises (thickening of alveolar walls in the lung tissue) Lung is made of elastic spongy fibers that"s why it contracts and expands but it becomes more non-elastic fibrous tissue in this pulmonary fibroses. Cystic fibroses is not the same ; it"s the thinking of mucusus that lines the alveoli. Problems with our muscles (polio, myasthenia gravis(stiff muscles), muscular dystrophy(weak muscles) Tieing a belt around a chest to breath is like restrictive disease. Movement of air (slower in obstructive) and (faster in resistive) Spirometer: device that measure air flow in and out of your mouth. Tidal vol: normal volume of breathing in and out. Reserve volume: some air stays inside no matter what.
