KINE 2049 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Bradford Hill Criteria, Meta-Analysis
Document Summary
Lecture 17, epidemiology can be descriptive or analytical. Cohort/prospective study: takes a group of people ad follows them over a period of time to see which people in that group develop the illness, you look at the di erences in disease based on the di erent exposure factor. You are exposed to this certain chemical the disease rate is lower, vs being exposed to exercise and the disease rate is lower. Bradford hill criteria (used to determine causation from correlation: its pretty much you giving enough evidence to be able to go like yep that is right. 1. is there a strong relationship between the iv, which is smoking in this example, and the dv, which is lung cancer. The cause has to come after the illness. Smoking starts before you get lung cancer: consistency, so do we observe the same type of relationship happening regardless of the conditions that are being used.
