With no treatment, 90 patients out of 100 will have a heart attack. With treatment 60 patients out of 100 will have a heart attack. Curit was a drug being used to see if you could lower heart attack incidence. Absolute risk reduction: control rate - experimental rate: 90%-60% = 30% reduction. So curit will save 30% of patients from heart attacks if they take it. Relative risk reduction: control rate - experimental rate divided by the control rate: (90%-60%)/ (90%) = 33% The relative risk reduction is a lot more impressive than the absolute risk reduction, which is why drug companies market using the rrr and not the arr. The rrr does not take into account the initial base risk of even getting a heart attack. To avoid this, you should ask for the nnt (number needed to treat)
