KINE 3012 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Pulmonary Vein, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Circulation
Document Summary
You have to remember when we talk about pressure differences what exactly we want to happen. Lungs are not attached to any bone so we need another way to increase that volume. The pleural membrane is attached to parts of the body that can move. The changes we need to pay attention to are the interpleural membranes. Blood helps regulate temperature because it is water based. All the blood the heart pumps out comes back to it. Blood moves slowly through the veins, blood spends more times in the veins. Blood moves very quickly in the arteries, by the blood has moved around, we have lost pressure, we often get zero pressure because of rubbing up against muscles, friction etc. Therefore blood moves very slowly in the veins. Blood spends more time in the venous system so we call it the high volume system. There are two steps to circulation, arterial take it away, veins take it towards the heart.
