KINE 3030 Lecture 12: Biomechanics Friction Lecture
Document Summary
Direction dependent on relationship between velocity of flow and velocity of system and specific to the force in question. Force of gravity (fg) always has to be in between the combined forces. Allows the ground to exert a big enough force on the foot to accelerate the body. Friction occurs in the direction opposite of the direction of the motion or impending friction. Pushing = friction between the desk and the ground. Bigger the friction= harder to move the object with respect to the surface. When two forces are moving with respect to each other the friction is static, when they are moving its called dynamic friction. Sliding will occur between two forces until applied force drops below kinetic friction. Amount of friction you push against always stays static. Max static friction is always greater than kinetic friction. Magnitude of friction depends on the applied force. Cannot have coefficient of friction for only 1 surface.
