Brazil had more slaves in it than america. This is the rst time a south american country has hosted the olympics. Dilma rouse : was the president of brazil but got removed from the government because of corruption. Zika virus: there was a fear during the games because of the virus, lots of professional gold players didn"t go in fear of the virus. Pollution: the water around the bay where lots of water events were being held was very dirty. Russia: was accused of doping, 111 members got banned because of drugs, their entire weight lifting team was banned as well. Refugee"s: the ioc allowed refugee"s with no o cial country to compete as a refugee team, and 10 of them ended up going. Canada got quite a few medals during this olympics. Penny oleksiak: she got a gold, silver, and bronze medal in swimming for canada.
