o Common S/S to spinal cord injuries
Tenderness along spinal column
Deformity of spine (rare)- thats not normally
there
Localized muscle spasm
Decreased or altered sensation in extremities
Weakness or loss of motor function in extremities
Never ask pt. to move to assess pain
o Red Flag symptoms!!
Urinary or fecal incontinence
Priapism (uncontrolled erection)
Impaired breathing
Little or no chest movement
o Treatment for Spinal cord injuries
Do no further harm
If there is head involvement expect neck
injury
Note body position
Decerebate/Decorticate posture
Stabilize head/neck
Establish responsiveness
Activate EMS
