Document Summary

Fe(cid:271) 28th le(cid:272)ture note: elastin- matric protein that causes compliant, compliance= change in volume/ change in pressure, highly compliant vessel expands to greater extend when more volume. The aorta"s re(cid:272)oils (cid:271)a(cid:272)k to its origi(cid:374)al state as pressure decreases and volume decrease. Volume decreases as it push blood flow also passive: this continues to force blood into circulatory system during diastole. Major benefits of compliance: maintains lower systolic blood pressure. Elastin allows 75ml to fit without generate lots of pressure. Usually during systole aortic pressure is 120mmhg: converts intermittent flow into continuous flow. 75ml of blood is in aorta during systole. Arterial pressure pulse: pulse pressure= systolic pressure-diastolic pressure; pp=sp-dp, aortic valve closure is dicrotic notch- causes some backflow before closure which results in pressure oscillation. Allows us to see point in which diastole & systole is occur: map= dp +1/3 (sp-dp) 1/3 is systole; 2/3 is diastole to allow adequate filling.
