Moving goods, services, people, and information: he innovated the shipping container, he was believed in after the vietnam war (moving weapons and supplies to soldiers) Freight costs and warehouse costs were a fraction of the cost of commodity because it was very intensive to move things from ships to land and vice versa. In the development of capitalism and business the ability to overcome distance was and continued to be of critical importance. Improvements in movement of goods, people, and information across distance and into new markets allowed businesses, and societies and cultures more broadly, to develop in new ways. The cell phone encapsulates many of the ways in which overcoming distance has changed business and society. The drive to do business, control and dominate markets, and eliminate barriers of time and space was (and is) a major motive force in the evolution of communications technology.
