The lands of the maya spanned from northern central america to southern. They settled in this region over 5000 years ago. The classic period spans from 300 to 1500 ad, conquered by spanish. Astronomy at this point in europe was far beyond maya"s. Maya"s achievement"s in astronomy are completely their own. Most advancement in astronomy of ancient civilizations by time frame. They left behind lots of info about their culture. Mayan bruins, spanish chronicles (early spanish people wrote it) The maya practiced religion based on multiple gods. They learned to predict the celestial bodies appeared in the sky. They learned complex celestial cycles: mayan sites and records reveal the maya tracked celestial cycles in order to worship the mayan gods associated with celestial bodies. There are a large number of ruins made for celestial bodies: -pyramid of kukulcan is a big tourist attraction. It has 365 steps (shows mayans were aware of the sun"s annual cycle)
