Segment 1 of the podcast which was produced by ruth alexander explains the history of the. Silk road and introduces the audience to the ancient traditions. While this road did transport silk it was not as much about trade as it was a cultural artery trafficking ideas, technology and religion across all of eurasia. Alexander then goes on to discuss the fact that this road is a much more modern concept than what was once believed. She concludes at its essence the silk road is more of a brand that china is relying on to build healthier relationships with their neighbours, using it to reminisce about their peaceful past with other countries. Part 2 of the podcast describes how the silk road would operate as a grand transnational development strategy. It involves china funding and building infrastructure across all of eurasia with the aim of creating a main economic trading hub.
