Document Summary

Lecture: emmanuel kant, he has a principle of ethics, concept of a person, kant said people are unique in the universe. The nature of a person is something very different than anything else in the world. He puts a great value/emphasis on persons: persons are an end onto themselves and never a means to an end. If lying cannot be a general rule and it doesn"t serve the general will, that means we should not do it. He says that it must be about our duty in the moment: he says we do not only have a duty to others, but we should encourage good will in ourselves, ex. You cannot universalize it because it would destroy fidelity and the institution of marriage. It is not based on laws or opinions, but it is based on these principles: right: behaviour that is morally good or correct, language of rights, natural rights, the right to freedom of movement, action and self-determination.
